The Opposition
The issue is the increase year-by-year of the tax placed on gallons of gas in California. Twice it has been put into action a “tax swap” where state sales on gas went down but a goods tax was implemented instead. CalChamber thinks tax upon gas is necessary in fixing potholes and maintaining transportation. CalChamber supports this type of government revenue, especially as it holds much weight in our economy.
"The CalChamber supports revenue to repair and maintain our roads and bridges and to expand congestion management. Every day, California drivers experience more delays, more potholes and more frustration without these services. In order to be effective, the revenue must be a long-term, reliable stream, to complete multi-year projects for maintenance, safety, rehabilitation and congestion reduction, and should not be diverted from transportation spending" (California's Gas Tax).

Tax upon goods is something that will not change in this state or country, however the goods we use are changing and while tax is a reliable source for government revenue, the gas tax in California is at a high like no other state. It is not suggested to rid of gas tax simply urge/suggest government officials find ways to lower the burden of gas in California.
