Why is it that California has the highest gas tax rate? As it stands from December 15th 2023 "tax revenue will drop substantially, according to a new state analysis" ( Lazo ). This is due to the rise in zero-emission cars, buy less gas, less taxes to pay. However the issue here is the tax rise itself, as electric cars make their way onto roads less people pay for those taxes, leaving gas car users to pay more.
